From the Artist: Hello! I’m Anisa, an artist living in Portland, Oregon. I have been working in the arts for over 25 years my specialties include editorial illustration, book illustration, pattern design, home décor, and fashion. My artistic style is a mix of Naïve, Contemporary and Pop art, but it’s my love for other cultures, environmentalism and social justice that have shaped who I am as an artist. I earned my BFA from Minneapolis College of Art & Design.

Anisa Makhoul
Originally trained in printmaking and media arts, Anisa Makhoul found her way to illustration after a winding creative path that included years in the fashion world and a chance rediscovery of drawing with her son. Now an established illustrator and printmaker based in Portland, Oregon, her work is defined by vibrant color, hand-drawn charm, and an effortless blend of whimsy and warmth. A new Schoolhouse partner, we were drawn to her playful yet grounded approach—each piece offering a burst of joy, a wink of imperfection, and a deep appreciation for the beauty found in nature’s quiet quirks.
