Inside the Design: The Miller Collection

One of the most rewarding parts of designing our products in-house is seeing an idea take shape—from the first spark of inspiration to a polished piece that brings beauty and function to everyday life.

Inspired by vintage library and workshop machinist carts, this collection reflects our love of practical objects that feel both nostalgic and enduring. From the hum of a library bustling with borrowed books to the timeless intrigue of tools in a workshop, these carts invite a quiet sense of curiosity and connection to the analog moments of life. Versatile and hardworking, they’re as at home holding your favorite books as they are displaying tools or a lineup of martini glasses. (Image credit below, on right: Nicki Sebastian)

Balancing practicality with playful details, Miller Shelving carries the same timeless charm as its predecessor, reimagined with warm oak plywood shelves and a perforated metal backing for a refined, industrial look that’s at home in any space.

Below, we spoke with our design team to learn more about the evolution of Miller and the thoughtful details behind its expansion.

Expanding from carts to shelving felt like a natural progression. The form language of the metal tube remains, with refined details that highlight our appreciation for humble industrial design. We’ve added the graphic perforated back panel, which can be used on different shelves, and warm, exposed oak plywood shelves that bring both durability and charm. These elements together create a piece that is both industrial and refined—perfect for modern living.

We created the Miller shelving collection to strike the perfect balance between form and function. Inspired by vintage library and workshop carts, the Miller collection merges utilitarian design with a contemporary sensibility, making it both functional and striking. With its generous depth and thoughtful scale, this design was intended to work beautifully alone, or as part of a larger system. Soft curves and thoughtful details create a design that feels welcoming and versatile, bringing both style and practicality to your home. The back panels are also adjustable, letting you highlight your favorite collections in whatever way feels most personal to you and your space.

One of the standout features of the design is the extended bent tube that flows past the top shelf. This subtle detail makes the top feel like part of the overall structure, creating usable space that’s often overlooked in other shelves. The exposed oak plywood shelves add warmth, and the clean lines offer endless possibilities for any space. When it came to creating the low shelf, we knew we wanted to incorporate cord management without compromising the overall aesthetic. The solution was simple yet effective: a back panel that can be installed facing up or down. This allows the cord management feature to remain discreet when not needed, keeping the design clean and streamlined.

The perforated metal backing was carefully crafted to ensure it added texture without feeling too busy. It has just the right balance—industrial and modern, yet refined. Every detail of this collection has been thoughtfully considered to ensure it brings both function and beauty to your home.
