This Mid-Century Modern Home Plays with Pattern + Color in All the Right Ways

A few months ago, we ventured to the colorful and quirky family home of Audrey Leary—the creative behind Instagram account @homerunballerina. Cozy, considered, and filled with an abundance of art, their charming mid-century modern home is the perfect embodiment of maximalism in modern form. We were so inspired by her style and space that we thought we'd revisit a few of our favorite design moments. Scroll below for three styling tips we're borrowing from Homerun Ballerina's playbook.

Mixing and matching a variety of color combos + patterns can add a unique element to the room. Think florals, stripes, or gingham designs in your bedding, throw pillows, and rugs.

Case in point—the bedroom above adds dimension to the space by introducing an array of colors in vivid shades. The wallpaper, plaid bedding, pillows, and art print create contrast but are unified by their geometric patterning.

Interesting interiors often feature an abundance of art and decor items. We love how Audrey sprinkled in moments of playful personalization throughout her home with art, tchotchkes, and nostalgic mementos. Hang a gallery wall, display decorative keepsakes, or style thrifted treasures on open shelving. The idea is to work with items that have personal meaning to you. Don't be afraid to experiment and let your personality shine through in your home decor

Combine ceiling lightinglamps, and wall sconces to add a layered and lived-in feel to your space. In each room, Audrey selected lighting with personality to add to the overall room design. She also utilizes multiple types of lighting (like a wall sconce and table lamp in the bedroom or a floor lamp and ceiling light in the living room) to create an efficiently lit and extra ambient interior.
