Inside the Collaboration: Schoolhouse x Pendleton

We’ve long been enamored by American manufacturing and exceptional craftsmanship, and as it turns out, we’re in good company. In Pendleton, Oregon, just a few hours’ drive from our Portland factory, a family-owned business has been hard at work weaving beautiful textiles for six generations.

We’re talking, of course, about Pendleton, who first opened up shop well over a century ago. Given our shared passion for high quality, beautifully made goods, it was only a matter of time before we teamed up to create something truly special.

Our latest collaboration offers just that — two heirloom-quality wool blankets, both expertly crafted to last a lifetime. Learn more about Pendleton’s unique approach to textiles just ahead, along with how these new designs came to life.

A Kindred Spirit

Pendleton opened up their first woolen mill here in the Pacific Northwest back in 1909. Originally one of over 1,000 mills in the United States, theirs is one of only a few remaining today. In fact, now they operate two mills — the original in Pendleton, Oregon and another in Washougal, Washington.

These mills are where you’ll find craftspeople spinning, dyeing, weaving, and finishing 100% pure virgin wool, most of which has been sourced in the US. The fruit of their labors: a timeless collection of jacquard-patterned fabrics and blankets, made to be cherished for generations.

The heritage brand hasn’t stopped evolving, either. Pendleton’s state-of-the-art mills are proud to be OEKO-TEX® STeP certified, meaning they have passed rigorous sustainability and social responsibility standards. In addition, their finished goods are OEKO-TEX® STANDARD 100 certified, making them 100% safe for our homes.

A Special Collaboration

As two heritage Oregon brands who share a commitment to creating lasting quality products, not to mention a love of pattern,  this partnership has been especially meaningful. Combining Pendleton’s many years of textiles experience with our own design know-how, we’ve created two cozy wool throws, available in an assortment of colors.

First, you have Canebrake, the result of our first collaboration with Pendleton, now here in a bright and mossy color palette. Then, there’s Hopscotch, an all-new design with a decidedly geometric edge. The inspiration? Our VP of Design, Katie Elliott, tells us: “In this collection, we’re embracing a joyful and nostalgic approach with inspiration from turn-of-the-century painted game boards.”

Beyond their playful looks, there’s more to love. As with all goods from Pendleton, these blankets are crafted from wool, a renewable and biodegradable fiber that’s four times more durable than other natural fibers. Wool insulates against moisture and heat while resisting odors and staining, too. It also happens to be especially cozy, which is why we find ourselves reaching for it again and again.

Whether you opt for clean and modern Canebrake or geometric Hopscotch, you can plan on keeping your favorite blanket close by for quite a while.
