Inside the Home Where We Captured Our Fall '24 Collection

Multiple times a year, the Schoolhouse team searches high and low for inspiring spaces where we can photograph our upcoming collections. Some are summery coastal homes, and others are cozy cabin getaways. What they all have in common: timeless style that invites us to sprinkle in personal touches throughout.

When it came time to shoot our Summer and Fall ’24 collections, we drew inspiration from Schoolhouse friend and local interior designer Karie Higgins. One of her most recent projects has been River Cabaan, a serene cabin on the Wilson River in Tillamook, Oregon. Needless to say: It was exactly the kind of real, lived-in place we imagined capturing our products in.

Earlier this year, our team took a trip to Tillamook to do exactly that. This week, we’re sharing a few images from our Summer and Fall ’24 photoshoots to give you a closer look at this inspiring space.

A Mid-Century Riverfront Cabin

River Cabaan is actually owned by Karie and her husband, Lee, an architect. Nestled along the Wilson River, it’s about an hour’s drive from Portland and 20 minutes from the Oregon Coast. Surprisingly, the space used to be a garage. After countless hours of planning and renovation, Karie and Lee have transformed it into a two-bedroom rental that draws design-conscious travelers from all over.

Inside, the home is swimming with mid-century style. Step into any room, and you’ll feel inspired to sit back and bask in its warm atmosphere (especially with so many breathtaking views of the surrounding nature). Every corner is simple but tastefully curated, with just the right details and conveniences needed for a cozy, laid-back stay.

The Perfect Summer Backdrop

We were especially drawn to the material choices found throughout River Cabaan. Rich marbles, colored cabinetry, and wood walls made for the perfect backdrop to our latest assortment, which nods heavily to the 1970s.

Our time in the space started with capturing our summer styles. On the furniture side, that meant giving our Firth Chair, Owen Side Table, Linden Sofa, and Forma Dining Table moments in the spotlight. As for lighting, you may have spotted our Barnes Pendant and Edwin Table Lamp making themselves at home.

We were even able to make use of the cabin’s large exterior dining area, where our outdoor designs made cameo appearances. The kitchen and bedrooms served as versatile backdrops as well.

A Cozy Fall Nook

Our summer styles weren’t the only designs we sprinkled throughout the home. River Cabaan’s wood-walled studio space offered just the right vibe for capturing many of our fall pieces too. One of our favorite shots puts the olive velvet Kinney Sofa front and center, with our Caldera Floor Lamp and Gambit Tufted Wool Rug grounding the scene.

Last but not least, if you look closely, you’ll also see our latest collaboration with Pendleton, including the Hopscotch Wool Throw. The wood tones of River Cabaan’s studio space highlighted the new styles and colors beautifully — especially fitting when you consider Pendleton’s rich heritage here in the Pacific Northwest.

We hope you find the space as inspiring as we do. And if you haven’t already, consider this your invitation to kick back somewhere special and take in the surrounding scenery.
