For Taylor Hill, design is about more than just pretty rooms, it’s about the stories and character that make a home feel lived-in and full of life. She draws inspiration from historic buildings, noticing the small details that give them personality and timeless charm.

“Whenever I feel stuck, I just look at old structures,” Taylor says. “Even the simplest ones have so much character if you really pay attention.”

We caught up with Taylor to hear about her creative process, her love for collecting meaningful art, and the thoughtful piece that adds both personality and purpose to every space she touches.

What’s your favorite piece of decor in your own home?

I have a strong love for my art collection! Almost every piece has a story behind it, which holds value in itself. No home is complete without something on the walls.

Do you have any design mentors?

I don’t know him personally, but Gil Schafer always knows best.

Where do you draw your design inspiration from?

Whenever I feel stuck, I always turn to historic buildings and their nuances. It’s amazing how much character and detail you can find even in simple vernacular structures.

What’s your favorite Schoolhouse product?

We find a home for the Alabax style in almost every project! It is sensible and cost-effective while also adding a touch of “old school” style.
