The Designer’s Journal: Inside Brooklinteriors’ Latest Project in Austin

Tucked away in the heart of Austin, a once-modest 1960s ranch has been thoughtfully reimagined into a modern-day retreat by designer Alicia Hassen Roche of Brooklinteriors. With soaring 15-foot vaulted ceilings, custom clerestory windows, and a warm mix of natural materials, the home strikes a harmonious balance between mid-century charm and contemporary sophistication.
We sat down with Alicia to talk about her relaxed-luxury design philosophy, her favorite statement-making details, and the Schoolhouse piece she turns to time and again.

Describe your design style in three words.
Relaxed-luxury, playful, and timeless.
What does your home say about you?
My personal sanctuary is my home in the countryside of Texas, which allows me to feel grounded, present, and creative.

What’s your favorite Schoolhouse product?
The Miller Low Shelf—it’s a beautiful alternative to clunky media consoles. Place under a TV, window, or piece of art, and elegantly store books, record player and vinyl records, ceramics, and more.

Is there a new project you’re working on?
Yes, a barndominium renovation project just outside of Austin, Texas.

What’s your favorite piece of decor in your own home?
A colorful, vintage quilt made from salvaged saris.
