For Andrea Nemes, design is classic, refined, and livable—but never predictable. She thrives on thoughtful rules, like using odd numbers to create visually interesting groupings, while breaking others, like insisting on perfect symmetry. Her inspiration comes from everyday moments, bold accents, and designers she admires, like Studio LeClercq.

One of her favorite design tricks? “I love creating a statement by layering bold, colorful accessories into an otherwise neutral room,” Andrea explains. “Whether it’s a large-scale coffee table book, a bold lamp, or another accent piece, it adds an element of surprise while still feeling curated.”

What’s your favorite way to create a statement-making moment in a room?

I love creating a statement by layering bold, colorful accessories into an otherwise neutral room. Whether it’s a large-scale coffee table book, a bold lamp, or another accent piece, it adds an element of surprise while still feeling curated. It’s also a great way to play with trend-forward colors without committing to them in a permanent way.

What design “rule” do you always follow, and which was made to be broken?

One rule I always follow is that odd numbers tend to create more visually interesting groupings. One rule we don’t mind breaking is that things don’t always have to be symmetrical to feel harmonious.
