For Amanda Louise, founder of Amanda Louise Interiors, great design starts with a story. Known for her curated, intentional, and comprehensive approach, Amanda views every project as a narrative—one that reflects the people who will call the space home.

Her team’s recent renovation of a 1960s house in Greenville’s historic Botany Woods neighborhood is a perfect example. What began as a quick mudroom update evolved into a full-home transformation filled with layered textures, timeless finishes, and deeply personal details. We caught up with Amanda to learn more about her design ethos, her favorite Schoolhouse pieces, and how they brought new life to this beloved family home.

Describe your design style in three words.

Curated, intentional, and comprehensive.

Where do you draw your design inspiration from?

I find the colors, textures and patterns found in nature to be a huge source of inspiration. I also love to pour over design books from a range of other designers. I'd take disappearing into a physical copy of beautiful images and the stories behind them over scrolling any day.

What is your design ethos?

I aim to approach each project as a narrative, carefully curating every detail to reflect the people who will be living within the space. Rather than following trends, I want to focus on adding meaning to homes—homes that are not only beautiful but deeply personal and timeless.

Can you tell us about your favorite Schoolhouse product?

We love the Owen table collection (coffee, bistro and side tables)! Each item in the line fits so seamlessly with a variety of decor styles and adds a special midcentury element. We love the soft lines and the functionality of the pedestal. For example, we've been installing banquettes into more and more projects and the bistro table is a great place to have a morning cup of coffee or work from home on a laptop.

Can you tell us a little bit about the project pictured?

This home had incredible potential but needed some work to bring it back to its former glory. Our clients knew this would be their forever home for their young family so making sure it was done right was top priority. They wanted a shared space for their young son and daughter to share, but one that could also be used for two brothers to share down the road.

Where is the project located?

Botany Woods on the Eastside of Greenville, SC. A sought-after neighborhood with a mix of 1960's traditional and mid century homes.

What was the biggest challenge in bringing this project to life?

The project was a part of a large-scale renovation so delays were to be expected. In this room in particular, previous owners had painted over the grasscloth so we had to determine if it was worth salvaging and, sadly, it was not. Instead, we went back with a neutral grasscloth to pay homage to the original design.

Any fun facts about the project?

When we were first hired for this project, the homeowners were planning a quick mudroom renovation with full service furnishing / decorating but after walking through with the architect, the project evolved into a full-scale renovation and we were able to think of all the spaces in a whole new light!
